The Mediterranean Diet is one of the most praised eating plans in the world. It’s praised for its ability to promote weight loss, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of heart disease.

The Mediterranean diet is a modern diet that is based on the traditional eating patterns of people in Greece, Southern Italy, and Northern Africa. The Mediterranean Diet was originally proposed in the 1950s by Ancel Keys- an American scientist- when he discovered that Greek people have low rates of heart disease when compared to other countries.

In this diet, one can eat food from plants and animals. It emphasizes on vegetables, fruits, healthy fats such as olive oil and nuts, whole grains such as breads and pasta made from wheat flour or cornmeal, beans and legumes etc.

The Mediterranean diet is also called the “healthy”, “plant-based”, or “heart-healthy” diet. It has been around for over 2,000 years and it has its roots in the diets of Greece and Italy. It is made up of mostly plant foods, such as vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes and nuts.
